Landscape

I initially found the Australian landscape impossibly vast. The enormous vistas, huge skies, overwhelming scale and unfamiliar terrain. The colours and shapes have taken years to become accustomed to and assimilate into my process. I started to paint the breathtaking views of farmland, bush and range which echoes with recognition of the land of my childhood. I work from sketches made on action and photographs for colour reference. I work in acrylic on ply using a range of tools from dental files to nit combs, stencils, print blocks, pencils and sponges to express the unique character of the SE Queensland landscape.
