La Nina Summer is a series of paintings I completed in January of 2022. The Strada Easel challenge is a worldwide challenge on Instagram and Facebook. The challenge runs 2x per year in January and September. Artists must paint one image per day from life. I chose to paint en Plein air and make paintings directly from my garden. The garden is particularly lush after the torrential rain of a La Nina Summer. I love the abundant growth and most days painted in the rain. This series is reminiscent of work I made during my early day's painting in Bermuda, I was fascinated by the subtropical growth and made many paintings en Plein air in gardens. This was the first time I painted a similar subject matter since then and the first time I had tackled it in acrylic, I used to paint in gouache. Initially, the acrylic paint pushed and irritated me but we came to a good understanding eventually.
The series are all 30x30cm. Acrylic on gessoed 180gsm craft paper. Ready to frame. They look great in an IKEA sannahed frame for a quick, easy and stylish presentation or go for a custom frame for something extra special.
